An Ark is a vessel (container) intended for protection and safety. Adding gold symbolically elevates it to the sacred. In my work the number one focus has always been balance within the natural world; a balance that faces threat from multiple directions.
Places like the Bosque del Apache in southern New Mexico are carefully managed to provide many migratory birds with water and food so necessary for winter preparation for their upcoming spring migrations. Because of these refuges the Sandhill Cranes of this painting are holding their own in most areas of the US.
This painting is an homage to the Sandhill Crane, to the Bosque del Apache, and to the magic land of New Mexico.
